I am not talking about people who are fat or over weight in the flesh, but fat in their heads. Spiritually obese. They could not get their head in to God’s kingdom. A Fat head. They are too full of themselves and no gym will help that fat reduction. Only a heavy does of prayer and desire for eating right.
Eating the bread of God’s word. But it also says in Prov. 23:7 “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”… So if you feed upon worldly ideas and lies it is like eating fast food, it has no substance and It will only make you fat. Some may need to go to a gym(church) to find a good diet to feed on. When they get a good balanced nutritious meal for their spirit then maybe they will fit through the narrow gate.
Let us see what Jesus spoke about in entering the Narrow gate in Matthew 7:13-14.
Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it. But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straightened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it.
He first brought up that their are 2 gates we all must take. The wide gate or the narrow gate. We decide which one we want. Yes we all want to go to heaven and be with Christ, but do we really know what is expected of us? Do we really know HOW to live a disciplined life before God and not fulfill the desires of the flesh?
Jesus was talking about a life full of difficulties. A life full of spiritual treasures only found by a life given to sacrifice.
Not many will find it…
So this is not talked about much and it is difficult to find this narrow way…
So I believe going to church, praying, fasting or even being a good person is NOT enough…
It is a life of decisions that you’ve made that shows God your true intent…It is true dedication, a life separated to God in action AND in word. You have to develop a narrow mind in many things. Keeping standards before God by his word and commands. The life God has for each of us is a narrow walk. A life only in balance by His word.
The narrow gate – In the old days; many of the city gates were very narrow and before travelers could enter the city with loaded camels and donkeys they had to unload everything just to get the animal inside the city, then they had to reload the animals.
This tells us a little about our lives in getting rid of every encumbrance, that which we carry as a burden or the baggage of this world that we hold on to… (Hebrews 12)
Drop it all before you can enter God’s kingdom… Give up who you think you are, your pride, your desires. Lay down your life and take up your cross.
Many people are taking the wide gate. You can see it in their conversations, their lifestyles, their morality and in some cases their political view. All these tell everyone what you believe or don’t believe. What you value. What is your life telling others? Are you compromising the truth? Are you standing strong against sin? Are you following the teachings of Jesus or what some Pastor says and/or maybe you’re following some popular views by your family and friends? Is it what Jesus says?
We all have a choice in what we do or say. Do we want to do the hard thing or easy thing? Do we really want to be like Jesus or be ourselves and have popularity and be liked by everybody else? I never said it would be easy did I?
Why do you think Jesus said, “Take up your cross and follow Me?” Because it is NOT easy…It requires a sacrifice. Giving up of your will, your way, what you want to do. Not defending yourself, but giving everything over to God in prayer and following Him. He knows you better than you know yourself. He knows how far to take you, until you break, until you want to give up. Believe me, He will take you there. This is how you become narrow in your thinking and life. By slimming down in your mind and how you see yourself.
Not many know what I am talking about. But if you’re praying and asking God to come closer and make you what He wants you to be and then you suddenly find your life being turned upside down and things going wrong on so many levels where you almost cannot take it anymore. You might be finding yourself in the hands of God as He is forming you. Testing you with fire and trials. To see what you’re made of. Where He allows adversity to come to test you to see what you can handle (see Job 1) and see if your word and dedication is true or not. See God knows your heart but only wants you to be honest with Him. If you are saying all the right things but not really living it then He will help you be honest, real quick, believe me, I know.
He will confront you through others and circumstances until you want to throw the towel in. It will get real painful and real to you. Only if you are lying to God and worse, yourself. So if you are really desiring the narrow way, be honest with God about you, your ways, your thoughts, your actions, your lifestyle. What you say about God in your life before others…
Desire the narrow way so you can know true love. God will show you how much he loves you by how much he will do to show you how little you really love God. What? Yes God will go out of his way to prove you and your words and declarations to be true or false and lies.
Take a long close look in your heart and If there are lies, do the right and honorable thing and fall on the sword and admit you lied before God and ask for help to be better and really mean it like your life depended on it,
because it does!! Then if you wronged and/or lied to others and/or misrepresented God to them, then admit it to them and repent also and ask them to pray for you…Only then can you begin the journey…Remember Jesus sweat great drops of blood when asking God,”if it be possible, let this cup pass from me”.
Are you ready to sweat drops of blood to show God your sincerity and devotion to Him? I hope so…because He stands at the door…are you willing to open for Him and ask Him to show you the narrow way?
